PISA – The city of miracles

Pisa is a city of unique charm, where art, science, and tradition come together in a surprising balance. At its heart lies the extraordinary Piazza dei Miracoli, one of the most harmonious monumental complexes in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The iconic Leaning Tower, with its unmistakable tilt, attracts visitors from across the globe and offers breathtaking views over the city. Nearby stand the Cathedral, a masterpiece of Pisan Romanesque architecture, the impressive Baptistery—renowned for its perfect acoustics—and the Camposanto Monumentale, an open-air museum of medieval art.

Beyond the Miracles, Pisa reveals its authentic side in the historic center: medieval palaces, Romanesque churches, elegant squares, and lively corners along the famous Lungarni, much loved by students of its ancient and prestigious University.

Highlights include:

  • Piazza dei Cavalieri, redesigned by Vasari, once the political heart of the city;

  • the Scuola Normale Superiore, among the most renowned academic institutions in the world;

  • traditional shops and charming local boutiques, cafés, and bookshops.

Pisa combines grand history with a youthful atmosphere, making every visit vibrant and surprising.

FLORENCE – Heart of the Renaissance

Florence is one of the most extraordinary cities in the world: an open-air museum where every street preserves a fragment of breathtaking beauty. Cradle of the Renaissance, it gave birth to geniuses who shaped the course of Western culture—Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante, Brunelleschi, Botticelli.

Its most iconic symbol is the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, crowned by Brunelleschi’s Dome, one of the greatest engineering achievements of all time. Nearby stand Giotto’s Bell Tower and the elegant Baptistery, adorned with the famed “Gates of Paradise.”

Must-see sites in the UNESCO-listed historic center:

  • Piazza della Signoria, with Palazzo Vecchio and its monumental sculptures;

  • the unparalleled Uffizi Gallery, home to masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael;

  • the romantic Ponte Vecchio, lined with traditional goldsmith shops;

  • the medieval quarters, rich with history and authentic charm.

Florence is also a city of grand Medici palaces, historic gardens such as Boboli, extraordinary churches, and unforgettable panoramas from Piazzale Michelangelo.
Alongside its immense cultural heritage, it offers typical restaurants, artisan workshops, leather and jewelry ateliers, traditional markets, and charming cafés.

LUCCA – The city of perfect walls

Lucca is one of Tuscany’s most elegant and captivating cities, famous for its perfectly preserved Renaissance walls, a leafy ring over four kilometers long. Walking or cycling along the walls is a unique experience, offering panoramic views framed by centuries-old trees and historic bastions.

Inside the walls, Lucca reveals a harmonious historic center filled with cobblestone streets, Romanesque churches, and refined architecture.

Highlights include:

  • Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, an extraordinary oval square built on the footprint of the ancient Roman amphitheater;

  • the iconic Guinigi Tower, crowned with a rooftop garden of holm oaks;

  • the Cathedral of San Martino, home to remarkable works of art;

  • San Michele in Foro, a splendid Romanesque church dominating the main square.

Birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, Lucca is a city where music is alive throughout the year, with concerts and cultural events animating its streets. Its boutiques, pastry shops, and cafés create a serene and welcoming atmosphere—perfect for slow, meaningful exploration.

VOLTERRA – The city of stone

Volterra is one of the most extraordinary and scenic towns in Tuscany, a place where time seems to have settled gently. Perched on a high hilltop, it overlooks the surrounding valleys with majestic silhouettes and a suspended atmosphere made of wind, stone, and ancient history.

One of the most important Etruscan cities of ancient Etruria, Volterra preserves remarkable archaeological treasures such as the celebrated Porta all’Arco, the impressive remains of the Etruscan walls, and the magnificent Guarnacci Etruscan Museum, one of the oldest in Europe and home to countless funerary urns and unique artifacts.

The historic center is a maze of medieval alleys, noble palaces, and artisan workshops. Highlights include:

  • Piazza dei Priori, one of the finest medieval squares in Tuscany, dominated by the austere and imposing Palazzo dei Priori, the oldest town hall in the region;

  • the evocative Roman Theatre, beautifully preserved and overlooking a quiet valley;

  • the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the nearby Baptistery, enriching the spiritual heart of the town.

Volterra is also renowned for its alabaster craftsmanship, a tradition refined over centuries. Local artisans still preserve this ancient skill, creating sculptures and delicate objects that seem to capture and reflect the passing light.

A city that tells thousands of years of history, yet still preserves its original, timeless charm.

CHIARA*TOUR GUIDE

I'm Chiara, a qualified tourist guide, Pisan by birth. I’ve chosen to return to live in Tuscany after 12 years of traveling and living abroad. I currently live in the enchanting Etruscan Coast from which I reach the destinations of my tours around Tuscany. The idea of starting my own business under the name of Tour Guide Tuscany was born in 2020. It was a choice that reaps the fruits I have sown after the kilometers traveled since I qualified as a national tour guide in 2017 in Pisa. Thus I began, right under the Leaning Tower, my profession, at the head of many and many groups of all types and origins to whom I wanted to convey all the interest I have in art, history and italian heritage. My tours range from walking tours in the cities of art ( Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Volterra ) to tours in the medieval towns of the Etruscan Coast ( Castagneto C., Bolgheri, Bibbona, Campiglia Marittima, Suvereto, Populonia ), from visits to hermitages and castles immersed in the nature of Casen...
